In this bout of selling records that I’ve been doing, I’ve sold eight records for $100+ each, but I’ve never sold, or even listed, a record at $200+… Until just recently.
Back around the turn of the millennium, I had some knowledge of Coil. I think I already had the CD version of Musick To Play in The Dark, and some liking of the song Red Queen, but that’s about all I knew. Then I found the LP of Musick To Play in The Dark 2.
I remember it was pricyish, probably in the $30 range… I also remember feeling like I should buy it, because it was Coil, but I also remember thinking that I should not buy it, because it was Musick 2, rather than the earlier album. Anyway, I did end up buying it. I’m glad I did… Because it is the coolest record I have ever owned. And I don’t mean cool musically, though I imagine that it is, but I mean the vinyl itself. A double lp of a great pearlescent vinyl… But the fourth side is etched with an image of the moon…
It’s really cool. The kind of record I would keep solely for the aesthetics of the vinyl. Though with much mental hand-wrangling about it, I did decide to list it for sale. Sigh. No one has bought it, but still, just the listing of it means that it could vanish any moment. Sadly, it just has too much potential $$ value to keep it solely for the vinyl.
