I’ve found that some of the most satisfying music for me this year has been performances on KEXP. These are some of my favorites of 2020:

rapinish…
Back in the day, as the proverb goes… I fell into rap music fandom from a double-edged sword… In 1986 (or 85?) I saw the Beasties video for She’s On It on USA Network and was totally hooked. In pursuit of them I started going to 2nd Ave records, which was the only store I…Read more
Bandcamp goin’ crazy!
To help generate money for artists who may be under duress from the Pandemic, Bandcamp is waiving their fees today… On their front page they show whats being bought… Normally when watching, you can see a couple of items being sold every second or so… Today, though, it’s nuts!!
A raft of heavy metal opinions…
Listening to a bout of Cirith Ungol recently got me thinking… Were they the first real American heavy metal band? Being a rather opinionated person, and as a fan of Metal for 37 years, I have been stuck forming all sorts of opinions about what is and isn’t Heavy Metal. Traditionally, I’ve ignored the Blue…Read more
The passing of Manilla Road.
Well, Mark Shelton died yesterday. As is not unusual, this led me down the path of metal ponderings. However, counter-intuitive as it may seem, this post is not about Manilla Road, or even regular heavy metal. Rather Manilla Road leads me to think of Darkthrone… Until 1998, I was pretty unaware of “extreme metal”. I’d…Read more

Rediscovering 40 years of concert going…
Trying to piece together my concert going history. Why? I don’t know. Just to test my memory? As I’ve worked through it, on and off over the years, I’ve remembered seeing many bands that I had forgotten I’d seen, so there is that. Speaking of forgotten, in 2008, someone put up a blog post of…Read more
Decisions, decisions…
I spend way too much time trying to settle on a MP3 player on my computer. Though, due to us owning two iPods and two iPhones, iTunes is never far away, I am always trying to settle on some other program for just plain playing music. Even now, what with our AppleTv2 I am still…Read more
Now here we go! 30 Days, 30 Songs: day three
Day 3: A song that makes you happy The most obvious choice here has to be Boston with Peace of Mind! Though I can’t help but think of the late, great Brad Delp whenever I hear them now, their whole first album has always worked to perk me up… But especially Peace of Mind.
Um, yeah… No. 30 Days, 30 Songs: day two
Sort of. Okay, I totally spaced this out yesterday… So maybe I’m not off to the best start… And then I have to go and get all serious and down with this entry. I don’t mean to, you know… But I just have to in this case… Day 2: Least Favorite Song. Firstly, let me…Read more
